Fitness Over 40:
How to Look and Feel 20 Years Younger
Fitness over 40 doesn’t have to be a pipe dream. In fact, no
matter how old you are, the benefits of exercise and eating healthy
are too great to ignore.
See, as you age, you start losing muscle mass and bone density.
Plus, your immune system becomes weaker. This is due to years of
oxidative damage to your cells from free radicals. It’s also caused
by a decrease in testosterone, especially in men.
That’s why fitness over 40 is so important. And is something you
should seriously consider.
Here are the first four benefits that come to mind:
• You’ll give your immune system a boost. This means
getting sick less often, and enjoying great health well into your
golden years.
• You’ll strengthen your muscles, boost testosterone levels
and HGH levels (both these hormones are known as the ‘fountain of
youth’), and increase your bone density. This means less chances of
falling as you get older and increased balance, poise and strength
for everyday tasks like carrying groceries or lifting up a grandson
onto your lap.
• You’ll keep your joints supple, getting some of those
aches and pains under control.
• You’ll help prevent disease. Exercise is proven to reduce
the risk of diseases that come with ‘old age.’ Some of these
include heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and high
cholesterol to name a few.
And that’s just for starters. Fitness over 40 brings many more
benefits than the ones I’ve listed above. What’s more, by
exercising regularly, including strength training, you’ll start to
look and feel 20 years younger!

This is mainly due to the increased production of testosterone
and HGH (human growth hormone). Plus, your energy levels will be
much higher throughout the day. Giving you the energy you need to
truly enjoy life.
Now, before you think “I’m too old to get fit or exercise!”
think again.
Plenty of people over 40 have accomplished amazing things when
they put their mind to it. Search the internet and you’ll find
dozens of stories of people in their 50s, 60s, 70s – even 80s – who
are out there enjoying life to its fullest.
Some have gone on to become bodybuilding champions in their 80s.
While others are out climbing mountains, or practicing martial
arts.
Now these are ‘extreme’ cases of people who got into fitness
after their 40s, but it goes to show that a) it can be done. And b)
there are no excuses.
If you do decide to get fit, get clearance from your doctor to
start an exercise program.
Ideally, any kind of “fitness over 40” exercise program should
include some strength training. This means lifting weights on a
regular basis. There are numerous benefits to doing so. But the key
here is to start small. Don’t go overboard. You want to ease into
your new workout program.
Also, make sure you stay committed to it. This is a long-term
endeavor.
Aside from weight training, you should also pick an activity
that you enjoy doing. Maybe for you it’s taking a walk everyday
through the park. Or perhaps you’d like to take up yoga, or even
Tai Chi.
Whatever it is, make sure it’s something that gets your heart
rate up, and is something you love to do. Heck, even gardening can
get your heart pumping and burning some calories. And as with
strength training, this should be an activity you can stick with
long-term.
Furthermore, you should eat healthy. That means staying away
from processed foods. They are laden with chemicals and additives
that are truly destructive to your health. Sure, enjoy them once in
a while, but the bulk of your diet should consist of lean proteins,
plenty of veggies, fruits, and complex carbs.
As I mentioned earlier, fitness over 40 is certainly possible.
Just commit to doing it. And when you do, you’ll feel – and look –
20 years younger!
To a happier, healthier you!
