Heart Healthy Foods
That Are Good For a Flat Stomach
In your quest for getting toned abs, you shouldn’t neglect your most important muscle of all – your heart.
The good news is, many of the foods that help melt the fat from your waistline are the same foods that protect your heart and help shield it
from disease.
These foods are packed to the brim with heart healthy nutrients… and best of all, they taste great!
Some of the nutrients these foods contain are:
- Carotenoids – Heart healthy antioxidants found in many fruits and vegetables.
- Omega-3 fatty acids – This is the “good” fat. It helps increase good (HDL) cholesterol which helps protect against heart
disasters, and acts as an anti-inflammatory.
- Polyphenols – A type of antioxidant that protects blood vessels and reduces bad (LDL) cholesterol.
- B-complex vitamins (like B-12) – Prevents hardening of the arteries and also boosts good cholesterol.
Now that you know what makes these heart healthy foods special, here is a list you can use to both protect your heart and get a flat
stomach:

Extra virgin olive oil – great for the heart and used extensively in Mediterranean cuisine.
Flax seed oil – great source of both omega 3s and omega 6s.
Sacha Inchi oil – also a good source of omega 3s and 6s.
Walnuts – omega 3s
Almonds – omega 3s
Salmon – packed with omega 3s.
Acai berry – incredibly powerful antioxidant that helps fight free radicals
Blueberries—carotenoids and powerful disease-fighting antioxidants
Spinach— great source of B-vitamins
Broccoli – rich source of carotenoids and fiber
Black or Kidney Beans – abundant in B-vitamins and fiber
Oatmeal – tons of fiber
Eggs – contrary to popular belief, eggs are a great heart-healthy food. They are rich in vitamins and omega 3s. Plus, they are a good
source of cholesterol (cholesterol is actually good for your body, as it uses it to repair arteries. More on this in another article.)
Organic, Free-Range, Grass-fed beef – unlike beef that’s fed grain and pumped full of hormones, organic grass-fed beef is a very heart
healthy food. It is a great source of omega 3s and 6s. And even more impressive—it’s a wonderful source of CoQ10!
Dark chocolate -- contains resveratrol and heart-healthy flavanoids. Eat chocolate that has concentrations of at least 70%
cacao.
Red wine – you’ve probably already heard all about this one. It’s got the potent antioxidant resveratrol. The most heart-healthy wines
come from the colder regions in France.
Now that you know which heart healthy foods are also great for your abs, make sure you start incorporating them into your nutrition
plan. Be creative and find ways to combine them to make great tasting, heart-healthy, stomach-flab-burning meals you can eat time and time
again.
One more thing you’ll notice about heart healthy foods is that they are – almost without exception -- natural, unprocessed foods.
This means they’re not packaged. They don’t come from a box and have a shelf life of months on end.
This should clue you into the fact that pretty much anything altered by man (think twinkies, puffed grains, refined sugars, etc) is not good
your body. Not good for your heart. And definitely not good for developing a flat stomach.
So do your best and try to eat as many of the heart healthy foods I’ve listed here as often as you can…
To a healthier, happier, you!
