Does a Low Carb Diet Really Help You
Get a Flat Stomach?

There’s so many diets out there today that it can be overwhelming. But, the latest “buzz” in the mainstream media is the low carb diet.low carb diet

You’ve probably heard about a few of them such as the Atkins Diet and the South Beach Diet.

But with so much information floating around it can be very confusing. So, in this article, I’m going to demystify the low carb diet for you.

As far as getting ripped abs, a low carb diet isn’t necessary. What’s more, going with a low carb diet may derail your dreams of getting that flat stomach you’ve always wanted.

Here’s why:

First off, sticking with a low carb diet is tough. Unless you have super-human will power, trying to do a low carb diet long term isn’t realistic. For most people, the craving for carbs while on a low carb diet are intense.

And here’s the thing…

When people give in to the cravings, they pig out. After pigging out, they feel bad about themselves, and eventually fall off the low carb diet.

Second, not eating carbs such as fruits and grains, prevents your body from getting the complete nutrition it needs. For example, fruits are an incredibly rich source of antioxidants and vitamins. And grains are a great source of fiber.

So if a low carb diet is hard to follow, and cuts your body off from certain nutrients, why is it all the rage?

Well, for a couple of reasons.

For starters, a low carb diet is effective at burning fat. This is because it forces your body to deplete all of its glycogen stores. This in turn causes your body to go into a state known as ketosis. This is when your body has to resort to burning fat instead of glycogen for energy.

And because of the nature of a low carb diet, it automatically cuts your caloric intake, preventing you from taking in too many calories.

Now, if you feel like you’d like to try a low carb diet anyway, then here’s the one tip I recommend you do, for maximum results:

Don’t go on a low carb diet for long periods of time. In fact, I’d recommend a maximum of two weeks, and then switching to a balanced diet.

Even better is just alternating one week low carb, followed by a week with carbs, until you’ve gotten the results you were looking for. This alternating sequence is known as cycling in the bodybuilding community. And body builders usually switch to a very low calorie, low carb diet right before a contest.

In short, you don’t need to go on a low carb diet in order to get six pack abs. Instead, stick with a diet abundant in natural, non-processed foods.

And by non-processed, I mean no donuts, potato chips, and other typical ‘junk’ foods. Acceptable examples of non –process and minimally processed carbs include brown rice, potatoes, quinoa, and whole grain bread.

And if you do decide to try a low carb diet, “ease” into it by eating a healthy, balanced diet for at least 30-90 days. Then transition into the low carb diet. It’ll make it easier on your body.

To a healthier, happier, you!
