The Mayo Clinic Diet:

What Is It & Can It Help You Get Six Pack Abs?

You might’ve heard about the Mayo Clinic Diet. And chances are you’re wondering… will it work for you? And, more importantly, can it help you get a six pack?

To answer that question, let’s start by looking at what exactly the Mayo Clinic Diet is, and isn’t.

If you search the Internet for the Mayo Clinic Diet, you’ll come across some sites that explain the myth of the Mayo Clinic Diet. It’s a myth that’s been perpetuated for years. Basically, this version is a diet where you eat mainly grapefruit.

This sort of diet is not good, or healthy. It restricts your calories way too much. Plus, it’s obviously not a balanced diet consisting of lean proteins, good fats, complex carbs, veggies and fruits.

Obviously, this is NOT the official diet being promoted by the Mayo Clinic.

So with that out of the way, let’s take a close look at the true Mayo Clinic Diet.

The Mayo Clinic Diet is based around the Mayo Clinic Healthy Weight Pyramid.

The goal of the diet – and pyramid – is to create a healthy eating plan you can stick with for life. It accomplishes this by allowing you to eat pretty much anything, in moderation.

At the base of the pyramid, are two food groups. You can eat an unlimited amount of fruits and veggies, with a minimum requirement of 3 servings of fruits and 4 servings of veggies.

The next level up, is carbohydrates. The recommended amount is 4 to 8 servings.

After that is protein and dairy. This is set at 3 – 7 daily servings. Second to last are fats, at 3 -5 daily servings. And at the top of the pyramid are sweets, up to 75 calories daily.

The pyramid allows people who follow the Mayo Clinic Diet to make appropriate food and portion choices.

From there, the diet contains three more major points. The second point is exercise.

The third is goal setting. This is where a lot of people go astray. Too many people try to lose weight without first setting a goal.

By setting goals, you increase your focus and motivation, as you can look back and see your progress. Which leads us to the fourth component – staying motivated. This is probably the toughest part of any weight management program. But it’s the most critical. Because losing weight is only half the battle. The rest is keeping it off for the rest of your life.

Part of the strategies involved include being positive, getting support, and to set your priorities straight.

Now that you know what the Mayo Clinic Diet entails, the question remains… is it good, and will it help you get a flat stomach?

The answer to both questions is yes, with two caveats. Following this kind of diet is definitely good.

But in order to get a set of six pack abs, you’ll probably have to increase the protein intake a little bit, so that you’re eating 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass.

That, and changing the exercise routine to an intense, fat-burning workout, like the ones described in programs like Turbulence Training and Truth About Abs.

All in all, the points covered in the Mayo Clinic Diet are very useful and helpful for anyone looking for lose that belly fat, and lead a healthy life well into your golden years.

To a happier, healthier, you!
